Virgin Voyages Scarlet Lady: An Epic Adult-Only Cruise

While Matt and I love to travel the world together, we have never, experienced a cruise ship vacation! We heard so many great stories not only about the Virgin Voyages Scarlet Lady, but also about the Virgin Voyages cruise line in general! This is why we decided to try this unique cruise experience.

The Scarlet Lady is not your typical cruise ship. It is an adults-only, luxury-focused ship that is designed to provide a more sophisticated and entertaining escape at sea.

In this post, I want to share our experience with Virgin Voyages Scarlet Lady ship. Not only do I want to share some of our best memories, but I also want to share what I wish I had known before going on this lovely cruise.

I will walk you through all of the things you need to know before booking and packing for the cruise. Things like required documents, Wi-Fi, the Virgin Voyages dress code, dining experience. As well as the best destinations, pools, spa, the Virgin Voyages drink package price, and so much more… 

Virgin Voyages Scarlet Lady

The Scarlet Lady was launched in 2020!  This stunning vessel is part of Sir Richard Branson’s Virgin Group and represents a new era in the cruise industry. Their first ship, the Scarlet Lady, has been making waves since its launch.

At 277 meters (907 feet) in length, the Scarlet Lady can accommodate up to 2,770 passengers, in its 1,330 cabins. This includes 78 Rockstar suites that come with exclusive perks like a dedicated concierge, access to a private club, and even a private transfer to the ship.

The ship’s design is contemporary and stylish, with a sleek, modern aesthetic that sets it apart from traditional cruise ships. I want to share a brief overview of this fabulous adults-only cruise ship for those interested in hopping aboard.

To be honest, the Scarlet Lady truly changed my mind about cruise ships!  We were booked into one of the “Rock Star” suites. It offered many perks from beginning to end, which I will outline below.

Welcoming Crew Members

From the moment we walked into the private “check-in” lounge, all the way to the last day when we checked- out, the staff were so kind, helpful, and welcoming!

As soon as we walked onto the ship, they invited us to sit in the one-of-a-kind, champagne lounge. They served us wine, refreshing champagne, a tray of delicious truffles, and some snacks.

While we were enjoying our drinks and appetizers, they delivered our suitcases to the room. The check-in process all the way to guiding us to our room, everything went so smoothly! 

One of the standout features of the Scarlet Lady is its focus on wellness and sustainability. The ship boasts a state-of-the-art spa, a fitness center, and a yoga studio. Which allows guests to prioritize their well-being while at sea.

Also, the ship has implemented various eco-friendly initiatives, such as a ban on single-use plastics. They also do not allow the use of a special exhaust gas cleaning system. This will reduce emissions, making it a more environmentally responsible choice for travelers. I will explain more about it throughout this post.

To be honest, the dining options exceeded our expectations! There were over 20 onboard restaurants. They offer a variety of gourmet dishes and experimental plates that catered to different tastes and personal preferences.

The Wake

The Wake was the first dining experience we enjoyed on the ship.  It is one of the fine dining restaurants onboard and serves up a variety of dishes for guests.

It is also known as one of the largest restaurants on the ship. It offers a glam vibe, a fantastic ambiance, and beautiful views.

The restaurant is located at the back of the ship. It is perfect for those who want to dress up and enjoy a nice steak dinner.

The menu at Wake includes seafood, steak, and other dishes that are prepared with fresh ingredients. The staff is very friendly and attentive but not intrusive, and very knowledgeable. Guests can also enjoy a variety of drinks and cocktails at the restaurant’s bar.

I think Wake is a great place to enjoy a delicious meal and relax. You can also enjoy the beautiful views of the ocean.

Razzle Dazzle

Razzle Dazzle is a restaurant on the Scarlet Lady Virgin Voyages cruise that offers a plant-based and vegetarian-friendly menu.

The restaurant is known for its light and healthy twists on classic dishes. The restaurant is open for both breakfast and dinner. The menu includes a variety of options such as avocado toast, vegan pancakes, and plant-based burgers.

We thought the food at Razzle Dazzle was generally good, and the staff was friendly and accommodating. The restaurant has a bright and colorful ambiance! It also has a playful design that includes bold patterns and neon lights (we thought it was so cool)!!!

Razzle Dazzle is a great option for those who want to enjoy a healthy and delicious meal. The meals are served in a beautiful presentation. 

Pink Agave

Pink Agave is a Mexican-inspired restaurant that offers a unique culinary experience. This was our favorite place. The restaurant’s menu features a variety of dishes that are inspired by Mexico’s culture and food scene. It promotes a shared plate experience.

The menu includes shareable and spicy dishes such as ceviche, tacos, and guacamole.  The food at Pink Agave is very good, and the staff is friendly and knowledgeable. We really enjoyed the staff person assigned to our table.

He was very experienced and gave us fantastic menu suggestions that were spot-on.  We dined at Pink Agave a second time. They seated us with the same staff person which was an amazing touch and attention to detail that made it memorable.

The restaurant has a vibrant and colorful ambiance, with a design that includes bold patterns and neon lights. Guests can also enjoy a variety of drinks and cocktails at the restaurant’s bar.

Overall, Pink Agave is a great place to enjoy a flavorful and lively dining experience while on the Scarlet Lady Virgin Voyages cruise.

Extra Virgin 

Extra Virgin is an Italian-inspired restaurant on the Scarlet Lady Virgin Voyages cruise that offers a sophisticated culinary experience.

The restaurant’s menu features a variety of classic Italian dishes that are prepared with fresh ingredients. The menu includes dishes such as pasta, risotto, and pizza.  

The restaurant has a warm and inviting ambiance, with a design that includes rustic wooden tables and soft lighting. Guests can also enjoy a variety of drinks and cocktails at the restaurant’s bar. We loved our lovely Italian cuisine at Extra Virgin. I think this is a great place to enjoy a delicious Italian meal! 

The Test Kitchen

The Test Kitchen is a unique restaurant that offers an immersive culinary experience. The restaurant’s menu features a six-course meal. It is is inspired by science and technology and is designed to take guests on a journey of the senses.

The menu includes dishes such as mushrooms, eggs, scallops, venison, blue cheese, and chocolate. The food combinations were not what you would ever think would go together, such as Asparagus ice cream. Sounds crazy but it was amazing!!!

The restaurant has a sleek and futuristic ambiance, with a design that includes modern furniture and high-tech lighting.  Guests can also enjoy different kinds of drinks and cocktails at the restaurant’s bar. The Test Kitchen is a great place to enjoy a unique and innovative dining experience! 

Gunbae

Gunbae is a Korean BBQ restaurant that offers a fun and interactive dining experience. The restaurant’s menu features a variety of dishes. They are prepared with fresh ingredients and cooked at the table by guests themselves.

The menu includes dishes such as short ribs, pork belly, and kimchi. The restaurant has a very lively and social ambiance, with a design that includes communal tables and a bar area. If you are traveling as a couple, they make you sit with two or three other couples to socialize. That way, you can share this fun experience together!

Matt and I really enjoyed talking, eating, and drinking with our group! It was such a lovely and memorable night! Guests can also enjoy a variety of drinks and cocktails at the restaurant’s bar.

I think Gunbae is a great place to enjoy a flavorful and interactive dining experience. You will have so much fun here if you are traveling with a big group of friends or family! 

The Dock

The Dock is one of the main restaurants on the Scarlet Lady Virgin Voyages cruise. It offers a variety of dishes for guests. The restaurant is designed to have a Mediterranean resort vibe. It is an open-air restaurant concept that allows guests to enjoy the ocean breeze and stunning views.

The menu at The Dock includes a variety of dishes. Some of the dishes are seafood, steak, and other options that are prepared with fresh ingredients.

The restaurant has a casual and relaxed ambiance, with a design that includes wooden furniture and nautical decor. The Dock is a great place to enjoy a delicious meal while taking in the beautiful views of the ocean.

The Pizza Place

The Pizza Place is a casual restaurant that offers a variety of pizzas for guests. The restaurant is designed to have a relaxed coastal vibe. The laid-back atmosphere that is perfect for a quick bite. The menu at The Pizza Place includes a variety of pizzas. That are made to order, with fresh ingredients and a thin crust.

The restaurant has a simple and straightforward design, with a counter for ordering and a few tables for seating. The Pizza Place is a great place to enjoy a delicious and casual meal.

The Galley

The Galley is a casual restaurant that offers a large variety of dishes for guests. The restaurant is designed to have a modern and chic vibe. A food hall concept that allows guests to choose from a variety of options.

The menu at The Galley includes a variety of dishes. You can get salads, sandwiches, and other options that are prepared with fresh ingredients. The restaurant has a casual and relaxed ambiance, with a design that includes communal tables and a bar area.

The tables where we sat had large windows! It allowed us to get a fantastic view of the gorgeous ocean and horizon.

The Galley is a great place to enjoy a delicious and casual meal! Sometimes we ate our breakfast at the Galley before heading to the gym or pool. It is also a great spot to have a quick lunch or snacks. 

The Manor

The Manor is a high-end restaurant on the Scarlet Lady Virgin Voyages cruise that offers a sophisticated dining experience. The restaurant’s menu features a variety of dishes that are prepared with fresh ingredients and presented with elegance.

The menu includes dishes such as lobster, caviar, and wagyu beef. The restaurant has a luxurious and refined ambiance, with a design that includes crystal chandeliers and plush seating. The Manor is a great place to enjoy a special and upscale dining experience.

The Social Club

The Social Club is a lively and social restaurant on the cruise that offers a fun and interactive dining experience. The restaurant’s menu features a variety of dishes that are prepared with fresh ingredients and presented with flair.

The menu includes dishes such as steak, seafood, and other options that are perfect for sharing. The restaurant has a vibrant and colorful ambiance, with a design that includes bold patterns and cool neon lights. The Social Club is a great place to enjoy a fun and social dining experience.

Most cruises are “Buffet Only” experiences. Virgin Voyages Scarlet Lady dining was NOT “buffet style”!! We LOVED the sit-down dinner experience! Matt and I also loved how diverse the menu was for each restaurant and bar!

Overall, our dining experience at the Scarlet Lady ship was nothing but excellent!  Every meal presented something unique and enjoyable! The service was excellent! We loved the food, drinks, and dessert and highly recommend these restaurants on the list! 

Virgin Voyages Scarlet Lady Afternoon Tea

Matt and I loved the onboard “Afternoon High Tea” experience!  The Scarlet Lady Afternoon Tea is truly a sophisticated affair that takes place in beautiful surroundings! The elegant and chic decor sets the perfect ambiance for this incredible experience, with lovely furnishings, soft lighting, and live music adding to the overall charm.

In my opinion, what sets Scarlet Lady’s afternoon tea apart is its playful and contemporary approach to this age-old tradition. While you can still enjoy classic elements like a selection of fine teas and delicious finger sandwiches, the menu also features unique and creative twists. We loved the champagne, flavored teas, and all the other delicious cookies and sandwiches!

The ship’s culinary team takes great pride in sourcing the finest ingredients to make delicious treats served during afternoon tea.

Each bite is full of flavor and creativity, and it will give you an unforgettable culinary experience. I highly recommend booking an afternoon tea while being onboard! 

Virgin Voyages Drinks Packages

The Virgin Voyages drinks packages give you the freedom to try a wide variety of top-quality beverages! It includes a range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic options, from craft cocktails and fine wines to premium spirits and refreshing mocktails.

Their mixologists are skilled at creating amazing and unique drinks! With the Virgin Voyages Drinks Package, you have the freedom to explore this creative mixology!

Virgin Voyages Scarlet Lady ship offers a wide range of suites to cater to the different needs and preferences of passengers. Here are the various types of suites available on the ship:

The Cabins

1. Insider Cabins – These are the smallest cabins on the ship, measuring 105-130 square feet. They come with a queen-size bed, mood lighting, a flat-screen TV, and a bathroom with a rain shower.
2. Sea View Cabins – These cabins are slightly larger than Insider Cabins, measuring 140-160 square feet. They come with a large window that offers stunning views of the sea.
3. Sea Terrace Cabins – These cabins are similar to Sea View Cabins in terms of size and amenities, but they also feature a private balcony with outdoor furniture.
4. Sea Terrace Quad Cabins – These cabins are perfect for families or groups of friends, as they can accommodate up to four passengers. They feature two single beds that can be converted into a queen-size bed, a sofa bed, and a private balcony.

The Suites 

1. Mega RockStar Suites – These are the largest suites on the ship, measuring 2,147 square feet. They feature a separate bedroom, a large living room, a dining area, a private bar, a music room with a guitar and an amp, and a terrace with an outdoor hot tub.
2. Massive Suites – These suites measure 830 square feet and feature a separate bedroom, a living room, a dining area, a private bar, and a terrace with outdoor furniture.
3. Fab Suites – These suites measure 689 square feet and feature a separate bedroom, a living room, a dining area, a private bar, and a terrace with outdoor furniture.
4. Posh Suites – These suites measure 352-385 square feet and feature a separate bedroom, a living room, a dining area, a private bar, and a terrace with outdoor furniture.
5. RockStar Quarters – These are the most luxurious suites on the ship, designed for those who want to indulge in the ultimate cruise experience. The RockStar Quarters come in four different categories.

These suites are designed for those who want to have the ultimate cruise experience. The suites are spacious and feature floor-to-ceiling views of the sea, making it easy to take in the stunning ocean views.

Suites Benefits

The Suites come with a wide range of amenities, including complimentary access to the Thermal Suite in Redemption Spa, which features mud, salt, and steam rooms, a sauna, hot/cold plunge pools, and marble hammam benches. 

Guests also have access to Richard’s Rooftop, a members-only sundeck with hot tubs and a bar. The Virgin Voyages Rockstar Suite perks also include a curated beverages package, early booking and access to dinner and event reservations, priority boarding, and a daily bar tab.

Guests can also enjoy clothing pressing and nightly express swimsuit drying, as well as early entry to onboard entertainment. Overall, all suites offer a one-of-a-kind experience for those who want to cruise in style and luxury.

Entertainments and Activities

The Virgin Voyages Scarlet Lady has a ton of exciting entertainment and activities to offer. Trust me, you’ll never run out of things to do on this incredible ship (LOL)!!! On the first day after we checked in, our concierge booked several shows and activities for us!

We were able to attend several of those lovely shows! However, we had to cancel a few of our reservations because we thought we couldn’t attend all of them!!! hahaha!

You will love the selection of live music performances that range from chill lounge music to high-energy bands and incredible DJs that make you want to dance all night long! LOL! 

Here’s a quick overview of what you can expect:

• Original shows: You will be entertained by stunning pop-up circus performances and visuals.

Fitness and Well-being Facilities

The gym was one of my favorite spots on this lovely ship! The views were spectacular!!! The gym is surrounded by large windows, giving you the most amazing 360-degree ocean views! 

When Matt and I travel, we usually like to go on a long walk to get some exercise done and move our bodies (LOL)!! However, we could not resist the gym on this beautiful ship! I highly recommend taking advantage of this amazing gym with the most breathtaking views! 

We were amazed by the variety of types of equipment that they offered.  Each area had different equipment and classes tailored to specific workout preferences, whether it be cardio, strength training, cycling, or yoga.

There are two huge rooms on the upper decks that are fully dedicated to fitness! I usually started my mornings with cardio at the “Bike and Burn” room which has so many treadmills and stationary bikes!

I loved staring at the ocean while being on the bike! I ended my exercise with a little bit of weightlifting and HTT training at the “B-Complex“!  

They also offer different fitness classes on board, tailored to your preferences. I tried out a few of these free classes like VHS Workout (nostalgic aerobics exercises), Run Club (group jogging sessions), and Bungee Fit (an exciting resistance workout experience). It was really fun to mix up my workouts and challenge myself in new ways!

Aquatic Club

Besides the B-Complex, we loved enjoying the Scarlet Lady Aquatic Club, which was a perfect place for us to relax and unwind.

The lush pool area, surrounded by comfortable loungers, allowed me to soak up the sun after a workout. The hot tubs were also a great spot to loosen up our muscles before exploring other leisure options.

One exciting aspect was the outdoor Athletic Club area. We found a basketball court (a rare feature for cruise ships!) and even tried a bit of a game with other guests. The Athletic Club was also ideal for those wanting an open-air workout, providing an energizing atmosphere to exercise with a view.

Thermal Spa & Nail Salon

The Thermal Spa is a luxurious and relaxing experience that offers several amenities and services to guests. Matt and I absolutely enjoyed every second of it!

The spa features a mud room, salt room, sauna, steam room, hot and cold plunge pools, and heated marble hammam benches. Matt worked up the courage to try the cold plunge.

It was so funny to watch him experience the total shock of the cold water.  He was crazy enough to do it three times!!!

The Thermal Suite also includes a hydrotherapy pool, which is a great way to relax and soothe sore muscles. The spa offers a range of treatments, including massages, facials, and body wraps.

One of the unique features of the Thermal Spa is the ability to purchase a Thermal Suite Pass, which allows guests to enjoy the facilities for a set period of time.

The Thermal Spa is a great way to unwind and relax on the ship, and the amenities and services offered make it a must-visit for anyone looking to pamper themselves on their vacation. With its luxurious atmosphere and top-tier amenities, the Thermal Spa on the Virgin Voyages Scarlet Lady is truly a one-of-a-kind spa experience. 

Their nail services are designed to pamper passengers from the moment they step into the salon. The onboard salons are chic, providing a relaxing environment for passengers to unwind and rejuvenate.

Highly skilled nail technicians are on hand to deliver personalized services, from classic manicures and pedicures to more elaborate nail art designs. Passengers can choose from a big selection of nail polish colors and styles based on their preferences.

Stunning Rooftop Pool

Virgin Scarlet Lady, offers two stunning pools, both located on Deck 15.   The first is the “The Dock,” a stylish pool area with a large sundeck and comfortable loungers, designed to create a beach club-like atmosphere.

It offers beautiful ocean views, making it a perfect spot for sunbathing and relaxation.  This is the main pool gathering area where a lot of guests hang out and enjoy the sun, great music, and amazing poolside drinks.

The second pool is called “The Roundabout.” This unique pool has a circular design with a central island bar, creating a vibrant and social hub on the ship. Passengers can enjoy refreshing cocktails while taking a dip or lounging in the water.

The deck plans show that the two pools are not on the rooftop, but rather on the same level as the Redemption Spa and the Athletic Club.

Richard’s Rooftop

Richard’s Rooftop is an exclusive outdoor lounge area located on the Virgin Scarlet Lady cruise ship. Access to Richard’s Rooftop is not available to all passengers on the ship. This is a private area reserved for passengers staying in the RockStar Quarters, which are the most luxurious accommodations on the ship.

As mentioned above, the RockStar Quarters include the Massive Suite, the Gorgeous Suite, the Posh Suite, and the Fab Suite. Passengers staying in these suites are granted access to Richard’s Rooftop, which features a bar, a sushi bar, and a sunbathing area with loungers and daybeds.

Richard’s Rooftop offers breathtaking views, a sophisticated atmosphere, and a range of amenities designed to provide a truly unforgettable experience. Matt and I spent a decent amount of time here in the evenings because it was a nice and relaxing escape to enjoy the stars and a nice glass of wine. 

The lounge area is named after Richard Branson, the founder of the Virgin Group, and is designed to provide a stylish and sophisticated atmosphere for passengers to relax and socialize.

The lounge offers stunning panoramic views of the ocean and the ship’s surroundings, making it an ideal place to watch the sunset or enjoy a cocktail under the stars.

Scarlet Night Party & Dress Code

If you miss any shows, activities, or entertainment on Virgin Voyages Scarlet Lady ship, DO NOT miss the Scarlet Night party!!! That party was one of the coolest experiences of our trip! Scarlet Night is a spectacular party that takes place on the rooftop pool! 

The dress code for Scarlet Night is RED!!! The guests are encouraged to wear anything red, whether it is a red shirt, dress, accessory, or touch of red makeup. The event is a celebration of all things red and is a great opportunity for guests to dress up and have fun. 

Scarlet Night is truly a unique experience that is exclusive to Virgin Voyages! The DJ and the live music were incredible and played some of the coolest songs!!! The Virgin Voyages dancers danced in a unique, cool, and high-energy performance!

The party was nothing short of glamorous! With a stunning nightclub atmosphere, the entire ship seemed to gather to dance the night away! 

Everyone danced all night long while enjoying their drinks, cocktails, and a cool ocean breeze! It was such a memorable night! Scarlet Night is a unique experience that you will remember for years to come!!

Aside from all these party happenings and entertainments, we appreciated so many different bars and lounges scattered throughout the ship. They truly give you the perfect opportunity to unwind and enjoy a refreshing drink.

Onboard Shopping 

Virgin Voyages Scarlet Lady offers lovely onboard shopping and luxury shops that create a lovely cruise ship retail experience. From the moment guests step on board this fun area of the ship, they are greeted with an amazing selection of boutiques and stores that cater to every taste and desire.

Scarlet Lady’s shopping experience is unlike any other at sea, with a focus on high-end fashion, unique artisanal products, and exclusive collaborations with renowned designers.

Guests can explore a range of options, from luxury brands’ clothing and accessories to one-of-a-kind jewelry and artworks. The ship’s retail spaces are beautifully designed, creating an ambiance of sophistication and elegance that makes you have a wonderful shopping experience.

Luxury shops aboard Scarlet Lady also include a variety of duty-free items, from premium spirits and fragrances to designer sunglasses and cosmetics. Guests can enjoy tax-free shopping, making it the perfect opportunity to bring home some exclusive souvenirs or pamper themselves with top-quality goods.

Our Two Destinations with Virgin Voyages Scarlet Lady

Costa Maya, Mexico

Costa Maya, Mexico was our first stop! It is one of the destinations of the Virgin Voyages Scarlet Lady cruise. It is located on the Caribbean coast of Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula. Costa Maya is a small port town that offers a unique blend of cultural history and natural beauty.

Costa Maya also offers different other activities for visitors to enjoy. Visitors can take a glass-bottom boat tour of the nearby coral reef, go snorkeling in the crystal-clear waters, or simply relax on one of the town’s beautiful beaches. For those who enjoy shopping, Costa Maya has several cute shops and markets selling different kinds of souvenirs and local crafts.

Although Costa Maya is a cute and charming destination, Matt and I thought the town was a little small 🙂 After walking around for 1-2 hours, and some shopping at the local boutiques, we had a couple of drinks and headed back to the ship!

What to Know Before You Go

When we booked our trip on the Virgin Voyages Scarlet Lady, we wanted to make sure that we were in the loop on certain details (especially since it was our first time going on a cruise ship). 

Here’s What You Need to Know Before You Go:

Passport, App, Health Information

1- Passport:  Do not forget to take your passport for international destinations! 

2- Download the App: Unfortunately, their app is a little “buggy”. However, I recommend downloading it to your phone. That way you can fill out your information before checking in. You can also make all the restaurant reservations, and book the shows and activities in different areas of the ship. 

3- Health and well-being information: After you download the app and enter your info, you can answer the “health and well-being” questions within the app. Ship health ratings are pretty important, especially these days. Virgin Voyages takes health and safety seriously, implementing different cleanliness and hygiene protocols. The Scarlet Lady also has a medical center and trained medical staff onboard (which is wonderful)! 

4- The cruise fare is pretty straightforward:  It includes a lot of things that other cruise lines typically charge extra for, like dining at many onboard restaurants, basic beverages, and gratuities. However, do expect some extra charges for certain experiences, such as spa treatments, premium dining, and adventurous shore excursions.

Dress Code, Bar Tab, Adults Only Ship

5- Virgin Voyages dress code: As for the dress code, it’s more relaxed than traditional cruises. There isn’t a strict formal night, but there might be themed events where specific attire is suggested. I packed a mix of casual and dressy clothes to cover all bases. If you also want to attend the “Scarlet Night Party”, make sure to take either a red dress, shorts or something “Red” for the party! 

6- Alcoholic beverages and bar tab: Now, the bar tab can rack up quickly if you like your cocktails, as alcoholic beverages are not included in the fare. The Virgin Voyages recommends considering one of the Virgin Voyages drinks packages to help manage costs if you plan to drink every day or every night! 

7- Scarlet Lady is an adults-only ship: Lastly, I want to mention that the Scarlet Lady is an adults-only ship, catering to passengers 18 years and older. So, if you’re looking for a little fun and romantic trip for you and your spouse (or partner), a “Girls-Only” getaway,  adult family reunions, etc…. this is the perfect escape.
