From Crib to Big Girl Bed

Time flies!!!!! Can’t believe Valentina grew out of her crib already and she is ready to sleep in a toddler bed! It literally feels like yesterday when we were looking for a bassinet and crib for her, and now we are getting ready to transfer her from crib to big girl bed already!

Before we started the process of converting her crib to a toddler bed, we talked to her pediatrician (when Valentina turned 2) and also did some research online. We were advised that there is no “set time” when you have to replace your child’s crib with a regular or toddler bed, although most children make the switch sometime between ages 1 1/2 to 3 1/2. It’s advised that is best to wait until your child is 3 or closer to 3 since many little ones just aren’t ready to make the transition. So we waited until her 3^rd birthday to make this change from crib to big girl bed.

Turns out… She is completely ready to be transferred to a “big girl” bed! In fact, she has been ready to be transferred to a toddler bed for a long time, but Matt and I were the ones that were not quite ready! Hahaha! Our biggest worry was, once she sees the “opening” part of her bed, we’ll be in trouble! We knew she would constantly try to get out of her bed, walk out of her room and skip the afternoon nap time! And that’s exactly what happened as soon as we converted her crib to a toddler bed. She cried for the first few times calling her bed “broken” and refused to sleep in it until the bed is “fixed”! Now that she is used to it, she doesn’t want to take the afternoon nap. She wants to leave her room, come outside and hang out with us! I would say this has been the most challenging part of converting her crib to a toddler bed!
