The French Riviera, also known as the Côte d’Azur, is located on the southeastern coast of France. It stretches along the Mediterranean Sea, starting from the Italian border in the east and extending westward to the city of Toulon.

The major cities and popular destinations on the French Riviera include Nice, Cannes, Saint-Tropez, Monaco, Antibes, and Menton. It is renowned for its stunning coastline, glamorous resorts, picturesque towns, and incredibly mild Mediterranean climate.

As you plan your visit to this beautiful paradise, one of the most important decisions you’ll make is choosing the perfect place to stay.  Best Time to Visit the French Riviera

Best places to stay in French Riviera

The French Riviera, also known as the Côte d’Azur, is a beautiful coastal region in the southeastern part of France. The region is known for its stunning beaches, glamorous resorts, and charming towns.

The best time to visit the French Riviera depends on your preferences and what you plan to do during your trip. Here are a few things to consider before booking your trip:

Summer

The French Riviera has mild winters and hot summers. The peak tourist season is during the summer months (June to August) when the weather is warm and sunny, with temperatures ranging from 25°C to 32°C (77°F to 90°F). However, it can also be crowded during this time, especially in popular destinations like Nice, Monte Carlo, and Cannes.

Spring & Autumn

If you prefer milder weather and fewer crowds, consider visiting during the spring (April to May) and autumn (September to October). During these months, the temperatures are very pleasant, ranging from 15°C to 25°C (59°F to 77°F), making it a great time for outdoor activities like hiking and exploring the coastal towns.

Winter

While the winter months (December to February) are considered the low season, the French Riviera still has a lot to offer. The weather remains relatively mild, with temperatures averaging around 10°C to 15°C (50°F to 59°F).

The region has a more relaxed atmosphere during this time, and you can enjoy lower prices and fewer crowds. Some towns and resorts may have reduced services or limited activities during the off-peak season, so it is worth checking ahead.

Events and Festivals

The French Riviera hosts several incredible events and festivals throughout the year. The Cannes Film Festival takes place in May, attracting celebrities and film enthusiasts from around the world.

Nice Carnival, one of the largest carnivals in the world, is held in February. Monaco Grand Prix, a prestigious Formula 1 race, takes place in May. If you’re interested in attending these events, plan your visit ahead of time!

Best Luxury Hotels in Monte Carlo

Since we started off our French Riviera trip in Monte Carlo, I’m going to start with Monte Carlo hotels! There are several stunning hotels and resorts in Monte Carlo!

We booked ours at Hotel Hermitage Monte CarloWhen we traveled to French Riviera in 2014, we did not get a chance to stay in Monte Carlo (we stayed in Nice for about 5-6 nights).

We got transportation and traveled through Monte Carlo, Cannes, and Eze Village! We both fell in love with Monte Carlo and Cannes.

I distinctly remember that we both LOVED Hotel Hermitage and Hotel de Paris SO much!!! Not only they were STUNNING, but also, both hotels were so close to the famous Monte Carlo Casino! Hotel de Paris is right outside of the Casino!

The Hotel Hermitage is also a very close distance to the Casino (a short walk of less than 5 minutes). We loved the interior and exterior of both hotels!!

We were open to booking at any of these gorgeous hotels, however, since our anniversary was around the same time as the Monaco Grand Prix (A Formula One motor racing event), we had such a hard time booking at any of these hotels!

Luckily, throughout our research, we were able to find a beautiful room at one of our favorite hotels and booked it right away!!!

I’m so glad we were able to stay there and experience the beautiful Monte Carlo, while having the most incredible dining experience, lounging around the pool, and enjoying the best drinks at the hotel’s loveliest restaurants and bars!

Hotel Hermitage Monte-Carlo

Hotel Hermitage Monte-Carlo is an exceptional destination if you are looking for an unforgettable stay on French Riviera.

Located in the heart of Monte-Carlo, Monaco, this prestigious hotel offers a great combination of breathtaking surroundings, a gorgeous lobby, and great service!

In my opinion, from its lavish interiors to its world-class amenities, the Hotel Hermitage Monte-Carlo stands as a symbol of true elegance and timeless beauty.

The hotel itself is a true gem!! A blend of classic and modern designs, and breathtaking views of the Mediterranean Sea.

One of the most beautiful features of Hotel Hermitage Monte-Carlo is its stunning architecture. The hotel showcases a Belle Époque style, characterized by ornate décor, elegant furnishings, and incredible attention to detail.

As soon as you walk inside, you will be greeted by kind, polite, and attentive staff!  The beautifully designed lobby with marble floors, crystal chandeliers, and beautiful moldings, is breathtaking!

One of the best things about this hotel’s location is its proximity to the iconic Casino de Monte-Carlo. From our hotel, only took us less than 5 minutes to walk to this world-famous casino!

It’s also located near the Place du Casino, where you can find high-end shopping, and delicious cuisine at exquisite French restaurants.

Rooms and Suites

The rooms and suites at Hotel Hermitage Monte-Carlo are gorgeous! Each room is designed in a unique way and has a different style/color of wallpaper (I thought it was so cool)!!

From the finest linens to the tastefully designed French-style furniture, every element is carefully selected to create an incredible and welcoming room.

The rooms offer stunning views of the Mediterranean Sea or a beautiful cityscape, allowing you to enjoy the beauty of Monte-Carlo from each corner of this lovely hotel! I highly recommend booking a “Mediterranean Sea view room“. It will take your breath away!

Don’t forget to experience the In-door pool! This isn’t your average hotel pool! It’s so much more. It’s like a little slice of paradise right in the heart of Monte Carlo. You can also experience the outdoor-pool and beach which I will talk about it shortly!

The vibe at the Hermitage is all about relaxation. There’s a poolside bar too, where they serve these ridiculously good cocktails and wines!

One thing I absolutely love about this place is the service. The staff at the Hermitage are pros at making you feel like a VIP. They’re always on hand with a fresh towel, a cool drink, or a tasty snack.

Oh, and did I mention the view? Ah! The view is to die for. Overlooking the Mediterranean Sea and Monaco’s harbor, it’s the kind of view that makes you feel like you’re in a movie or something (LOL)!!!

Plus, the hotel’s located in the heart of Monte Carlo, so when you get tired of lounging by the pool (if that’s even possible), you’re just a short walk away from all the shops, restaurants, and casinos the city has to offer.

I think this hotel is one of the best places to stay in French Riviera. We absolutely LOVED this hotel and highly recommend it!!

Hotel de Paris Monte-Carlo

I think the Hotel de Paris Monte-Carlo in Monaco has one of the most prime locations, among other luxury hotels in Monte Carlo! As I mentioned above, these two hotels (Hotel de Paris and the Hermitage Hotel) both are located within walking distance of the famous Monte Carlo Casino!

Also, with Le Louis XV – Alain Ducasse at the helm, a restaurant that has been awarded three Michelin stars, you can enjoy an exceptional culinary experience.

The hotel also hosts the Le Grill, which offers panoramic views over the city and the beautiful Mediterranean Sea. Equally impressive is the hotel’s Wine Cellar. It’s one of the largest in the world, with the most incredible collection of over 350,000 bottles. If you are a wine lover like me (LOL), you have to enjoy a couple of glasses of wine here!

In addition to all this, guests have access to the renowned Thermes Marins Monte-Carlo, one of Europe’s most beautiful spas. Here, they can enjoy a wealth of wellness services, including rejuvenating treatments, a heated seawater pool, and cutting-edge fitness facilities.

From the dedicated concierge service, who can arrange anything from private yacht charters to tickets for high-profile events, to the high-quality personalized service offered by every staff member, the Hotel de Paris Monte-Carlo exudes a level of luxury that is truly unparalleled. It considers as one of the best places to stay in French Riviera.

Spa Métropole by Givenchy is not just a spa, it’s an experience. The attention to detail is remarkable, and the design of the spa itself is simply exquisite. This is another lovely hotel that is considered as one of the best places to stay in French Riviera.

Monte-Carlo Beach

Matt and I wanted to enjoy and experience a bit of a Monte Carlo beach before leaving charming Monaco! Our hotel offered their out-door pool and beach transportation for us and a few other guests! Monte Carlo Beach was less than a 10-minute drive from Hermitage Hotel.

Most beaches on French Riviera (between Menton and Cannes) are mostly pebble. Monte Carlo Beach is not an exception. This beach is not soft and sandy (I personally prefer soft sandy beaches over pebbled beaches).

However, I still recommend visiting this beautiful beach! This iconic beach offers a unique blend of glamour, luxury, and natural beauty that sets it apart from other beach destinations.

With its crystal-clear turquoise water and stunning coastal views, it’s no wonder that Monte Carlo Beach attracts so many travelers from around the world.

So, whether you’re a beach lover, a nature lover, or simply someone who wants to experience the glitz and glamour of Monaco, Monte-Carlo Beach is definitely a must-visit destination.

Whether you are looking for a luxurious getaway or a cultural exploration, the French Riviera offers the perfect blend of experiences. From ancient cities to major towns, every corner exudes beauty and charm.

Another thing to keep in mind is, with excellent transportation, (including the nearby Nice Airport and convenient train stations), reaching the French Riviera’s most beautiful places and major cities is a breeze.

I honestly think, French Riviera is a place where dreams come true!! LOL! Your journey to the French Riviera will be filled with great views, excellent restaurants, and unforgettable memories.
