The Hermosa Inn: This Historic Hidden Gem in Arizona Deserves a Spot on Your Bucket List
The Hermosa Inn is hands-down one of my favorite places in Arizona. It’s one of those hidden gems in Paradise Valley that completely pulls you in from the second you arrive. As soon as the valet helped me open the door, I felt like I could finally relax.

Disclosure: My family and I were invited as guests by the Hermosa Inn resort. As always, all opinions are my own.
It was one of those quiet moments that shift your whole mood, you’re not rushing anymore, you’re just there, present, and already soaking in the calm. The palm-lined driveway, the quiet desert backdrop, and the feeling like you’ve just stepped into someone’s private estate all make you want to slow down immediately. It’s not loud or flashy. There’s no scene. Just calm, charm, and a feeling that you’ve landed somewhere really special.

What I appreciate most is how personal everything feels. The staff is warm and friendly in the most genuine way, and the entire property gives off this calm, tucked-away kind of feeling that’s hard to explain unless you’re there. It’s cozy but not cramped, beautiful but not overdone, and every little corner has personality. Honestly, the Hermosa Inn feels more like a secret retreat than a typical resort.

A Look Back: The Story Behind the Hermosa Inn
One of the reasons I was drawn to the Hermosa Inn is that it has history, and you can feel it. Initially built in the 1930s by Lon Megargee, a cowboy artist with a vivid imagination, the property began as his personal home and art studio.

He named it Casa Hermosa, and instead of following a blueprint, he just built it as he went, using adobe and reclaimed wood. That creative, imperfect charm is still woven into the property’s bones today.

Eventually, Casa Hermosa became a guest ranch that welcomed artists, writers, and travelers from all over. Even after a fire decades ago, the inn was lovingly rebuilt, retaining its laid-back, soulful vibe. You’ll spot Lon Megargee’s original beams, fireplaces, and even some of his art throughout the grounds. It’s rare to find a resort that feels this personal, and it’s what makes the Hermosa Inn in Paradise Valley so special.
Rooms Full of Charm and Desert Warmth

Every room at the Hermosa Inn feels like a little sanctuary tucked into the desert. Each one is styled with rustic Arizona charm and cozy Southwest details, think adobe accents, wood-beamed ceilings, and warm tones that instantly make you feel at home. The layouts are thoughtful, too, whether you’re coming for a solo reset, a romantic weekend, or a family getaway.

- Rancho Casita – This is their most compact option, but it doesn’t feel small. It’s warm and inviting, with all the essentials you’d want for a comfortable desert stay.
- Garden Casita – These offer a little more breathing room, with vaulted ceilings, a walk-in shower, and your private patio that opens to a peaceful garden. The natural light and indoor-outdoor flow make it feel extra relaxing.

- Deluxe Casita – You’ll get extra space to spread out here, plus a fireplace, a soaking tub, and a cozy seating area. It’s perfect if you want that just-right mix of comfort and style.
- Grande Casita – These units feature a separate bedroom and living room, along with a larger patio, ideal for those who plan to stay a bit longer and want to feel more at home.

- Villa – This is where we stayed. A spacious combo of the Deluxe and Grande Casita with multiple private patios and full living spaces. It’s like having your own dreamy desert house.

Regardless of which one you choose, all the rooms are designed with intention and local inspiration. The textures, colors, and layout feel true to Arizona, but with the comfort and ease of a luxury hideaway.

The Pool: Lush, Quiet, and Gorgeous

The pool area might’ve been my favorite part of the entire property. It’s surrounded by palms, vines, and blooming flowers, and it’s blissfully quiet.

There are plenty of loungers tucked into shady spots, and a few cabanas that looked so cute and cozy.

We grabbed drinks and lunch poolside (yes, full menu service!), and it was one of those slow afternoons that I didn’t want to end.

There’s also a hot tub nestled into the greenery that we snuck into after dinner one night. It was so peaceful, with nothing but the sound of the wind moving through the desert plants. Just perfect.

LON’s: Feels Like a Special Occasion- Every Time
We’ve been dining at LON’s for years, and it’s always been one of those all-time favorite restaurants for us, whether it’s a cozy date night for Matt and me or a special dinner with family. It’s one of those places that never disappoints.

The setting is just beautiful. LON’s was originally Lon Megargee’s art studio, and you can still feel that creative energy in the way the rooms are laid out, fireplaces tucked into corners, adobe walls, candlelight, and soft string lights outside on the patio. It’s charming, a little romantic, and perfect for a relaxed evening.

The Menu
The menu changes seasonally, highlighting local Arizona ingredients. It’s full of thoughtful and flavorful dishes without being fussy. You’ll find things like mesquite-grilled steak, fresh seafood, roasted veggies, and house-made desserts that are worth saving room for.

One of my favorites has always been the ahi tuna; it’s fresh and packed with flavor, and Matt usually goes for the steak or short rib. We’ve also had their burgers, salads, and soups during lunch or brunch, and they’re all consistently excellent.
Breakfast, Brunch, Lunch, Dinner at LON’s

LON’s is open for breakfast, brunch, lunch, and dinner, depending on the day, so it works no matter when you’re visiting. Their weekend brunch is one of the best in Paradise Valley. We sat out on the patio with fresh coffee and house-baked pastries, and everything from the eggs to the seasonal fruit tasted amazing. It’s the kind of place where you want to linger a little longer.

LON’s Last Drop
Right next door is LON’s Last Drop, their cozy bar and lounge. We grabbed drinks there one evening and loved it. It’s relaxed yet stylish, featuring leather chairs, fireplaces, and a well-crafted cocktail menu. They offer fun takes on the classics, along with drinks featuring Arizona touches, such as local citrus or prickly pear. Whether you stop by for a pre-dinner drink or want a laid-back nightcap, it’s worth checking out. If you’re celebrating or want a fun night out, this spot nails it.

Adventure & Desert Magic Around the Hermosa Inn
Even though I could’ve stayed on property the whole weekend, there’s so much to explore nearby. The Hermosa Inn makes the perfect base for a little Arizona adventure.

- Biking Around Paradise Valley: They offer cruiser bikes (which I didn’t expect), and we rode around the quiet desert streets in the morning. It felt like our own little slice of Paradise.
- Hiking Camelback and Piestewa Peaks: If you’re up for a good hike, these nearby trails are stunning. The views from the top are worth every step.
- Papago Park: This one’s great if you want something more low-key.
- Nearby Spas and Golf: Paradise Valley has some fantastic resorts close by (like Sanctuary Camelback), and if you want to sneak in a spa treatment or hit the golf course, it’s all nearby.
- Desert Botanical Garden & Phoenix Zoo: Both are a short drive away and make for great spots to wander for an afternoon.

Final Thoughts
The Hermosa Inn in Paradise Valley is one of those rare places that is full of charm, surrounded by nature, and thoughtfully designed in every way. Whether you’re dining under the stars at LON’s, relaxing by the pool with a drink from Last Drop, or wandering the quiet garden paths, it all just feels special.

If you’re looking for a resort with crowds and flashy features, this probably isn’t your vibe. But if you’re craving something quiet, cozy, and romantic, this is it. It’s the kind of place where you feel like you can exhale.

We’re already planning our next stay, and I can’t stop thinking about the food, the desert light, and that calm, grounded feeling that’s so rare these days.

If you’re in Arizona or visiting from out of town, the Hermosa Inn should absolutely be on your travel list. It’s that special, and I highly recommend it!

Love,
Sherry XOXO
