How I’m Styling Wide Leg Jeans for Fall

I’m such a big wide leg jeans person, and this fall I keep coming back to a pair with a little curve through the leg, the barrel shape.

Lucky Brand’s version in vintage blue is the one I would start with. It has that nonstretch denim feel that holds its shape all day, and the wash is faded just enough to feel lived in without looking worn out.

For the top half I love pairing something soft with a structured bottom, so I would put Madewell’s oversized cotton cardigan in ivory over a simple tee and let it hang open. If it is a cooler morning here in Phoenix, or I am packing for a trip somewhere with actual fall weather, I reach for the Caslon bell sleeve mock neck sweater instead. It has just enough texture to feel like fall without being heavy.

Shoes make or break this outfit for me. A loafer keeps the whole look feeling put together instead of sloppy, and the G.H.BASS Whitney Weejuns penny loafer is the classic version I keep going back to. I have tried the trendier chunky styles and I always end up wishing I had just gotten the traditional shape.

For the bag I like something that can go from errands to dinner without me having to switch, so the Madewell woven leather crossbody is what I would grab. It has enough structure to look intentional but it is not precious, I do not think twice about tossing it in the car.

I kept the jewelry simple with the Nordstrom skinny huggie hoops. When the jeans and the loafers are already doing a lot of the talking, I like the accessories to stay quiet.

If you have been debating whether wide leg jeans actually work on your body type, my honest answer is that the fit through the waist matters more than the width at the ankle, so try a few rises before you decide they are not for you.
