Brown Gingham Matching Set: How I’d Style It for Fall

When a brand does the whole look in one print, half the styling work is already done. That’s why I keep buying matching sets. This one is ASTR’s brown and black gingham, and I’m styling it up rather than down.

Buy the Billie bomber if you only buy one thing. The faux leather contrast collar is what keeps the print from tipping sweet, and it works over jeans just as easily as it works with the matching bottom. Plus fit available.

The Cleora is a skort, not a skirt, so there’s a built in short underneath and you’re not thinking about it all day. It runs short. Tall boots or nothing.

Here’s the one change I’d make to how ASTR styles this. Layer the Commando butter cropped turtleneck in black under the gingham bustier. Suddenly it’s an October outfit instead of a warm room outfit, and the black sleeves pull the black right out of the print. Commando’s butter fabric doesn’t bunch under a fitted top, which matters here because the bustier has boning at the front. Fit note worth knowing before you buy: it works best for A to C cups and you’ll want a strapless bra.

Shoes stay simple. The Sam Edelman Sylvia in black. This is not the outfit for hardware.

What makes the whole thing look expensive is the DeMellier Vancouver clutch in black smooth leather. Real leather next to a print grounds everything.

Gold last. The Cendre Kate watch in 18k and the Shashi Dominique hoops. Two simple pieces is plenty.
