The Fall Candles I Burn From September Through November

Fall candles for the home are the first thing I swap when the weather starts turning, usually before I’ve touched a single pumpkin or changed out a pillow. Scent sets the mood faster than decor does, and it costs a lot less than redecorating.

The Wooden Pumpkin Candlepot from Pottery Barn is the one I would start with. It’s a real wood vessel, so once the candle burns down you still have a little pumpkin bowl to keep out on the counter, which is not something I can say about most seasonal candles.

Harvest Spice is the Pottery Barn scent I go back to every single year. It’s warm without being sugary, and it comes in enough formats that you can put the diffuser in the bathroom and the candle in the living room and have the whole floor smell the same. For a bigger room I would add the Falling Leaves and Cashmere three wick from Bath and Body Works.

Three wicks means it actually throws scent across an open kitchen, and the price is low enough that I don’t feel weird burning it every night. The scalloped glass candle warmer lamp from Anthropologie is the piece I recommend to anyone with kids or pets.

It melts the top of the candle instead of burning it, so there is no flame and the candle lasts noticeably longer. It also just looks nice sitting on a console. Capri Blue Volcano is not a fall scent and I keep it out year round anyway, it’s still the one guests ask about most. If you want the splurge, Nest Pumpkin Chai is the one.

It’s spiced but not heavy, and a single candle scents a whole room. The Citrus Clove amber collection from Pottery Barn is what I reach for when I want something less sweet. The amber glass looks good enough to leave out on a tray, and clove reads like fall without going straight to pumpkin.
