My Black And White Check Bathroom
Black and white bathroom decor is the one look I have never gotten tired of, and my powder room has been some version of it for years now. The MacKenzie-Childs Courtly Check pieces are what hold the whole thing together. I started with the Courtly Check glass soap pump, because a soap pump sits out on the counter all day and it is the thing guests actually touch. From there I added the tissue box cover, which is the swap nobody thinks to make.
A cardboard tissue box on a pretty counter undoes everything else you did, and covering it costs nothing in effort. The Courtly Check waste bin is the piece I hesitated on for a long time because it felt like a lot to spend on a trash can, and then I bought it and it is the thing people comment on most. The curiosity pot is where I keep cotton rounds, and having them out in something nice means I actually use them instead of digging in a drawer.
The trick with check is knowing when to stop, so everything else in the room stays plain. The Anthropologie Hotel ceramic soap pump is what I use in the guest bath, all white and simple, because I did not want two rooms doing the same loud thing.
The Williams Sonoma Tencel blend towels are the softest ones I have owned and they dry faster than my old cotton ones, which matters more than I expected in a small bathroom. The small wood pedestal tray gives the counter some warmth and lifts one or two pieces up so the surface has levels.
The Target Threshold bath rug is the cheap piece here and I do not feel bad replacing it once a year. Then the West Elm orange stem bundle in a small vase, which is the only thing in the room that changes with the season. Four check pieces, everything else quiet. That is the whole formula.
