My Fall Living Room Decor For Early September

My fall living room decor comes down to swapping a handful of things instead of redoing the whole room, and I start with pillows every year because they change the most for the least money.

The Pottery Barn Woodrow plaid pillow cover is the piece that makes the sofa read fall the second it goes on. I buy covers instead of full pillows now, because storing a stack of covers is a lot easier than finding somewhere to put four extra inserts.

The World Market velvet fringe trim lumbar pillow sits in front of it. Velvet with a plaid is my favorite fall pairing, since you get the texture without adding a second pattern fighting the first one. From there it is all small pieces on surfaces. The Target Threshold tall glass pumpkin is the one I put on the coffee table, and I like a glass pumpkin over a ceramic one because it catches the light instead of blocking it.

The Threshold medium hydrangea arrangement goes on the console, and dried hydrangea in those faded fall tones looks real in a way a lot of faux stems do not. The Threshold hops wreath I hang over the mantle rather than on the door, and hops feels a little less expected than eucalyptus or wheat.

The Lulu and Georgia Zainab rolling vase by Lolly Lolly Ceramics is the piece I would call the splurge here, and it is sculptural enough to sit empty. The Darcia vase is the quieter one, so I keep stems in that. The Anthropologie Manor glass side table is what I moved next to the reading chair, and glass is what I reach for in a small corner because it holds a lamp without visually crowding the room.

Last is the Pottery Barn leaf bowl on the coffee table for keys and remotes. Nine pieces, one afternoon, and the room feels like fall without me buying a single piece of furniture I have to live with in January.
