Black and White Fall Outfit: Six Pieces That Work Together

Black and white is what I fall back on when I don’t want to think. Six pieces here, one outfit, and everything works with everything else.

Start with the jean. PAIGE’s Anessa wide leg in black shadow comes in a 27, 31, and 33 inch inseam plus a petite fit, which almost never happens with wide legs. If you’ve ever hemmed a pair and watched the whole shape disappear, you understand why that’s worth mentioning first.

A crisp white shirt is worth spending on because you wear it constantly. The Good American poplin easy shirt is boxy and structured rather than soft, so it actually holds its shape when you tuck it. Half tucked, sleeves pushed up, that’s how I’d wear it.

Bone over beige, every time. It photographs cleaner. The ASTR Cooper bomber has dropped shoulders and an elastic hem so it sits over a shirt without adding bulk at the waist, and it comes in a plus fit too.

Where do you put the interest in an outfit this plain? The shoes. The Karl Lagerfeld Sabelle ballet flat has a square toe and a small crystal brooch on the strap, and that one detail carries the whole thing. I wear flats with wide legs far more than heels now, and the square toe keeps them from reading too sweet.

Small bag, real leather, chain strap. The Velez Lili crossbody is comfortable across the body all day and there are only a few left, so don’t sit on it if you like it.

The Dolce&Gabbana square sunglasses are the splurge, made in Italy, black frames and a dark grey lens. Black sunglasses go with everything you already own, which is how they earn the price back.
