Sub-Zero Refrigerators: The Perfect Mix of Style and Function

When I shared our kitchen reveal, I briefly mentioned our Sub-Zero refrigerators (the main refrigerator and freezer, as well as our beverage and wine storage fridge) as part of the full renovation.

However, this post is all about our full-size Sub-Zero refrigeration system, part of the Sub-Zero Designer Series. It’s the one we use every single day for fruits, vegetables, produce, and pretty much everything else. I honestly can’t put into words how much I love this refrigerator; it’s not just beautiful, it’s such a big part of how our kitchen feels and functions every day.

Our Exact Sub-Zero Refrigerator and Freezer Model (If You Want the Same One)

The total width of our Sub-Zero refrigerator and freezer together is 60 inches. A 30-inch refrigerator unit and a 30-inch freezer unit. We placed them side by side, but since these are fully customizable units and panels, you can really set them up however you want.

If you’d like to add a beautiful wine refrigerator in between or mix and match other Sub-Zero refrigeration options, you can easily do that, too. That’s one of the things I love most about Sub-Zero refrigerators. It gives you so much flexibility to design a setup that perfectly fits your kitchen and your lifestyle.

Why We Chose this Setup

We chose this setup (30″ refrigerator and 30″ freezer) because I loved the Sub-Zero design, with the main refrigerator on top and two refrigerator drawers below. I wanted the EXACT same look for the freezer. Freezer on top with two freezer drawers below. Together, they create a balanced, beautiful look while providing tons of storage space for both fresh and frozen items.

Each side has two drawers, making it super easy to organize everything from fruits and vegetables to frozen meals and ice cream. Both units are part of the Sub-Zero Designer Series and are panel-ready, so they blend seamlessly into our kitchen cabinetry and keep that timeless, built-in design we wanted.

The Split Climate® intelligent cooling system is one of those features I didn’t think much about at first, but now I notice it every single day. It keeps everything so consistently fresh: fruits stay crisp, herbs last so much longer, and nothing ever feels uneven in temperature.

What’s amazing is that the refrigerator and freezer each have their own refrigeration system, so the air doesn’t mix and things don’t dry out or get freezer burn. You can literally feel the difference when you open the door. It’s cool, balanced, and everything inside looks and feels just as fresh as when I brought it home.

You can easily fine-tune the temperature or lighting with just a tap, and it keeps the whole design feeling modern and minimal. It’s one of those little details that you don’t think much about until you have it, and then you can’t imagine not having it.

Another feature I really appreciate is the Smart Night Mode on our Sub-Zero refrigerator. It automatically dims the interior lights when the kitchen gets darker, which is such a thoughtful touch. The built-in ice maker has turned out to be one of those everyday features that I didn’t realize I’d appreciate so much until we started using it. And when we have friends over or are entertaining, the Max Ice Mode is such a game-changer; it instantly increases production so we never run out.

The ice itself is always clear and consistent, and I love that it’s all tucked neatly inside without taking up any extra space. The shelves inside our Sub-Zero are thoughtfully designed to keep small spills from turning into big cleanups. Each glass shelf has a special coating that keeps spills from spreading to other shelves, which I didn’t think much about at first, but it’s one of those little things that makes a big difference.

Between the kids’ juice bottles, leftovers, and produce containers, accidents happen, and this design makes cleanup so easy. You can just wipe it up in seconds, and everything still looks spotless. It’s such a thoughtful detail that keeps the inside of the fridge looking clean and organized all the time.

One of the coolest features of our Sub-Zero is its built-in air purification system, inspired by NASA technology. It refreshes the air inside the fridge every 20 minutes, removing ethylene gas (which speeds up spoilage) and eliminating odors before they spread.

I didn’t realize how much of a difference that would make until we started using it. The fridge always smells clean and fresh, no matter what’s inside, and even delicate produce like herbs and berries lasts so much longer.
